The history of the music box
More than 200 years ago, in 1796, the Swiss watchmaker Antoine Favre-Salomon invented the metal comb as a sound source for music boxes and musical snuff boxes. This self-playing musical instrument housed in a small tin box immediately captivated people. As a result, the music box quickly spread around the world in numerous variations, whether built into jewelry boxes, containers, watches, or wooden cases.
With its wide variety of designs and its many melodies, the music box remains extremely popular to this day. Especially as a unique and personal gift, there is a suitable music box for every occasion, for example for Valentine’s Day with a romantic melody, for a birth with one of the most beautiful children’s songs, or for a birthday or Christmas with a special piece of music by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, or another composer.
Beyond the melodious music itself, music boxes have increasingly become true eye-catchers and elegantly designed home accessories that enhance any room in your home.
