The best recipes for cakes, tortes, breads, and classic baked goods: In The Germany Baking Book, Jürgen Krauss dedicates himself to the most well known and beloved baking classics from German bakeries. This lovingly and fairy tale like illustrated baking book brings together traditional family recipes and showcases the full diversity of German baking culture.

The selection of recipes ranges from famous sweet classics such as Black Forest cherry cake, bee sting cake, crumb cake, and cream cheese cake to festive baked goods for special occasions. These include gingerbread, stollen, cookies, Easter bread, and New Year pretzels, all firmly rooted in the German baking calendar.

Lovers of savory baked goods are equally well served. From his Black Forest recipe collection, Jürgen Krauss presents recipes such as crispy pretzels, paper thin flammkuchen, Swabian seelen, and a juicy onion tart. The recipes range from simple to more demanding and are suitable for both beginners and experienced home bakers.

A special focus is placed on the fundamentals of baking. Many doughs, creams, and glazes can be flexibly combined, offering plenty of room for individual variations. Step by step instructions and numerous photographs accompany the recipes and make the preparation easy to follow.

The book is intentionally personal and reflects the baked goods the author grew up with. The result is a versatile baking book featuring classics that are known far beyond Germany and suitable for every occasion.

Look inside

Jürgen Krauss

Jürgen Krauss discovered his love for baking as a child while helping his mother in the kitchen. Many years later in England, his longing for German bread brought him back to this passion, inspiring him to develop his own recipes. As his creations improved, friends and family encouraged him, which eventually led to his appearance on the British baking show The Great British Bake Off. There, the trained physicist and trombonist delighted viewers with his precise, good-humored baking style and became a fan favorite under the nickname 'Jürgen the Bread'.
